The Centre for Nano Safety has been set up to address potential human and environmental effects of nanomaterials

Edinburgh Napier University's new Centre for Nano Safety has been set up. The Centre for Nano Safety is a multi-discplinary centre addressing the potential human and environmental effects of nanomaterials, incorporating human and environmental toxicology as well as microbiology.

EP Committee report calls for ‘no data, no market’

On March 31, 2009, the European Parliament (EP) Committee on Environment, Public Health, and Food Safety amended and adopted a report on the regulatory aspects of nanomaterials. European Parliament approved updated regulation address nanomaterials in cosmetics

On March 24, 2009, the European Parliament (EP) approved an update of European Union (EU) legislation on cosmetics. As requested by the EP, the new regulation introduces a definition, safety assessment procedure and labeling requirement for all nanomaterials that are used in cosmetics. A flying start: Nanomed Round Table Set-Up Round Table Meeting brought together broad expertise in nanomedicine

On 20th January, Nanomed Round Table’s Set-Up Round Table Meeting was held in the Club de la Fondation Universitaire. 45 initial experts coming from academia, industry, regulatory bodies and patient groups were present in the meeting. Expertise of the members covers regulation, economics, ethics, communication, risk assessment, medicine and other related areas. Experts to the meeting have identified ranges of issues involved in nanomedicine and discussed strategies to cooperate for further studies of these issues.
