Edinburgh Napier University's new Centre for Nano Safety has been set up. The Centre for Nano Safety is a multi-discplinary centre addressing the potential human and environmental effects of nanomaterials, incorporating human and environmental toxicology as well as microbiology.

EP Committee report calls for ‘no data, no market’
On March 31, 2009, the European Parliament (EP) Committee on Environment, Public Health, and Food Safety amended and adopted a report on the regulatory aspects of nanomaterials. European Parliament approved updated regulation address nanomaterials in cosmetics
On March 24, 2009, the European Parliament (EP) approved an update of European Union (EU) legislation on cosmetics. As requested by the EP, the new regulation introduces a definition, safety assessment procedure and labeling requirement for all nanomaterials that are used in cosmetics.
